Are you making the most of the University of Chester?

In addition to your course, did you know there are lots of extra things you can get involved in at the University of Chester to make your student experience completely unique? How much or how little you get involved in is completely up to you, but one thing’s for sure – with so much on offer alongside your course, you’ll never be short of things to do at the University.

Have you joined a club or society?

Clubs and societies are a great way to make new friends. Visit Chester Students’ Union’s website for more info on societies or visit Portal for more info on our sports clubs.

Are you keeping up to date with the latest news and events at UoC?

Follow Student Shout Out on social – @uocshoutout or read our weekly newsletter in your inbox – or do both!

Have you met with your PAT?

All Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate Taught (PGT) students will be allocated a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) when they start at the University.

Your PAT is a member of staff in your academic division who is your first port of call for any academic issues that you may have. Your PAT is here to help with issues which might be affecting your studies, and particularly to provide academic advice and guidance. If they can’t help directly with more personal or complex problems, they’ll signpost you to other teams at the University who can, for instance, Student Services or Proctor’s Office.

Your PAT is there to help throughout your student journey – and you should check in with them regularly, regardless of how you feel it’s going. PATs can get you back on track if you feel like you’re struggling academically, and they can also help you to improve and progress if you feel like you’re doing OK.

Most students will have the opportunity to meet with their PAT in their first week at university, or within the first few weeks of starting their programme of study, but if you haven’t met them yet for whatever reason, you can find details of your PAT in the My Details tile on the UoC app.

Have you taken advantage of our FREE sports offers?

From FREE fitness classes and facilities to free Active Campus sessions which are open to all, we have lots of ways for you to keep fit and active and meet new people. Visit Portal for more info.

Have you checked in with our Careers and Employability team?

Have you signed up or a Peer Mentor?

Peer Mentors are other University of Chester students who are here to help. Whether you’ve got a question about support services or navigating campus, Peer Mentors are here to help at every step on your student journey. Find out more.

Have you joined one of our student networks?

From our Student Parent network and Student Menopause Support Network to our LGBTQ+ Student Support Network and Student Carers Peer Support Group, we have lots of useful networks you can join to help you make connections and meet other students. Find out more.

Have you signed up for a volunteering session with Volunteering and Mentoring team?
