On 10 October 2025 we celebrate World Mental Health Day 2025. This year’s theme is ‘Overwhelm: when global events and relentless bad news become too much.’

Even if current events aren’t impacting you personally, the weight of everything happening around us can still feel overwhelming. Remember, reaching out for support is always okay.

The Mental Health Foundation have lots of tips on managing your news consumption and the impact of doomscrolling and highlights the importance of being able to protect your mental health whatever you’re going through.

If you’re struggling with your mental health and want to discuss support options whilst you’re studying, please contact our Student Services Helpdesk by telephone 01244 511550 or email studentservices@chester.ac.uk. Opening hours are Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am–4pm.

You can also access the Student Assistance Programme 24/7 for advice, in-the-moment support & counselling. You can call SAP on 0800 028 3766 and discuss with an adviser the support they offer.

All students also have access to the ‘Wisdom’ app, with lots of helpful resources to help manage your wellbeing, from meditation and breathing exercises to health checks. Download in your app store today and use the unique code MHA146072.

Please see our ‘In Case of Emergency’ Portal page for lots more information and out of hours support you can access.
