Useful Support Contacts – Emergency Situations

Know where to get help in an emergency whilst at the University of Chester?

If you’re at one of our sites or in University accommodation, our Porters are your first port of call. Call them 24/7 on 01244 511541 (Chester) or 01925 534374 (Warrington).

If you’re feeling very distressed, having thoughts of self-harm or suicide and need immediate help because you cannot keep yourself safe:

✴️ Contact your GP and request an emergency appointment

✴️ If it’s outside of GP hours, go to your nearest Accident and Emergency Department or call 999 (or ask someone to do it for you)

✴️ Text SHOUT to 85258 for 24/7 text-based crisis support

✴️ Contact your local NHS urgent mental health helpline

If you need medical help or crisis advice, but it’s NOT a life-threatening situation:

✴️ Call 111

✴️ Call our free 24/7 Student Assistance Programme on 0800 028 3766 to access support in the moment

✴️ Samaritans is a listening service available 24/7. Telephone: 116 123

✴️ Papyrus Young Suicide Prevention support is available 10am – 10pm, Mon to Fri and 2pm – 10pm at weekends: 0800 068 4141

Colour Walk

Join us for our first Colour Walk! Pick a colour and as we walk, take photographs of anything you see in that colour. You will notice things that you have never noticed before, be active, learn new things and connect with others… you will end up with a great set of pictures full of interesting textures and patterns. You might even put them together in a frame for your house! We will meet outside the Binks building at 10:55am. Please dress appropriately for the weather and don’t forget your camera or phone!

Student Menopause Support Network Relaunch – Nutrition and the Menopause with Dr Tanja Harrison

Tanja Harrison RNutr is a registered nutrionist and lecturer in public health nutrition at the University of Chester. One of her main interests is nutrition and menopause. The menopausal transition is a time of often unexpected changes for many women. In addition to not knowing how diet and nutrition can support with trying to navigate those changes, there is also a lack of awareness of potential additional health risks that women present with from this period in their lives.

PGR Online Seminar Series – Kate Salem – Armed Forces Health & Wellbeing

Kate is a veterans health researcher at the UoC Westminster Centre for Research in Veterans where she works on military health related research projects. Kate is also completing her PhD which explores mental health and help-seeking in military families, with a particular focus on the impact that service-related mental health might have upon military partners.

Appropriately timed on Remembrance Day, the aim of this presentation is to promote understanding of the health status of our Armed Forces Community. In this presentation, Kate will provide a summary of evidence highlighting aetiologies and prevalence of service-related mental health alongside the help-seeking behaviours of our Armed Forces Community. Kate will also provide an overview of her PhD research which demonstrates the benefits of exploring the perspectives of those involved in the provision of formal and informal support for military veterans, whilst highlighting the needs of military partners who provide mental health support. Kate will briefly summarise her preliminary findings and offer insight into the intended impact of her research.

This session will be of interest to anyone interested in the sectors above, regardless of your background.

NoTurningBack2020 is a long term programme committed to sustainable change. The NTB2020 Ambassador team are all role models and rising stars. They are 1-5 years into their careers and help to inspire interest in Marketing, Communications, PR & Sports Marketing by showcasing their varied career paths inside the sector.

Job Zone

NTB2020 Job Zone was launched in February 2021 for starter Careers up to salaries of £35,000. This is a job board that only companies that can evidence their EDI credentials can advertise their roles on. NTB2020 advertisers are organisations that have proven to be committed to and can evidence how they are increasing the diversity of their staff within Marketing, PR and Sports Marketing.
