Left us a comment regarding Chester Students’ Union (CSU) in our All-student Survey in October 2023?

Check out their feedback in response to your student voice:

A wider range of/more societies

CSU currently has 44 affiliated societies covering Academic, Music and Performance, Liberation, Arts and Crafts and Cultural & International interests to name just a few. Societies are student-led therefore, if none of our current societies are of interest, students are welcome to apply to set up their own society. Information on how to do so can be found here.

CSU needs to be more proactive regarding major issues, such as property rent increases

We are working on a campaign to ensure Students are not unfairly being rushed into signing up for housing too early in the academic year. The cost of living is one of our major campaigns and we will ensure accommodation issues are fed into this work. Please contact the officer team to get involved.

More funding for sports and societies

We provide funding to help start and maintain student societies and initiatives. Distribution of funds is always a closely managed balancing task. We discuss our block grant award with the University each year and they support where they can.

Better communication between CSU and students

We communicate with our members through our website and various social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter/X). Please check out our website and follow us on social media to see what we have to offer and what we are currently working on.

More in-person attendance by CSU

CSU has made a conscious effort to have a more active presence on campus in 23/24. This includes the Vice President Student Life attending a number of society events and the whole officer team engaging in student forums. Check out our social media to see where are team will be popping up next.

Better CSU space/more events at University Centre Shrewsbury

Kitchen facilities are now available in the UCS SU space. This includes, a fridge, microwave, kettle and free tea and coffee. CSU have recently employed a Community and Events Coordinator. Engagement with University Centres is a priority for this role, therefore expect to see more events for 24/25 welcome.

More socials/events which don’t involve alcohol

We provide a range of events via our societies and they work hard to ensure that where alcohol is present it is not the focus of the event. We are looking at future events that are not alcohol based. Our next major event is Chestival in March!

More postgraduate social events

CSU have recently employed a Community and Events Coordinator. Engagement with postgradute students is a priority for this role. Did you know that CSU have an affiliated Postgraduate Students Society? Click here to find out more.

More events I can attend outside of my timetabled sessions

All students are encouraged to bring their event ideas to CSU. We can also support students to plan and facilitate their own events through affiliated societies. Please feel free to contact studentopps@chester.ac.uk for more info.
