Reading the Garden: A Reading Group Discussion in the Vicarage

Students, staff and members of the public are cordially invited to join the English Department for the ‘Reading the Garden’ event, a garden-themed reading and discussion group. Discuss literary gardens in the work of a wide range of writers (a booklet of short extracts will be provided on request). Here is the schedule:

10:00am: Welcome (with tea/coffee/biscuits)

10:30am: Discussion in CVC008

12:00 noon: Break: Lunch in CVC101 (please bring your own packed lunch)

12:45pm: Tour of the Vicarage Gardens

If you would like to attend, then email Professor Deborah Wynne d.wynne@chester.ac.uk to receive the booklet of short extracts to read in advance. If the weather is fine we’ll stroll around the newly-restored Vicarage garden. There will be free tea/coffee/ biscuits (but please bring a reusable cup with you). You are welcome to bring a packed lunch to eat in the Vicarage (or in the garden if it’s dry and sunny). All are welcome!

DProf Studies and talk: A View of Complex Trauma

Short presentation by Christina Buxton followed by Q & A session

This presentation aims to briefly explore the diagnostic frameworks for PTSD and CPTSD, and to contrast the ICD-11 position on CPTSD with the DSM-5 classification. This will include a review of recent thinking on the new ICD-11 CPTSD model and to consider its validity and how to make meaningful interpretations of this diagnostic category.

An examination of the theoretical contributions to this new diagnostic model and the context in which it sits will provide an understanding of the profile of prevalence, risk factors, trauma history and comorbidity associated with those most likely to qualify for diagnosis.

Interfaith Event

Buddhist Mindfulness Session

Walking Further Together; An interactive exhibition of the lived experience of poverty, designed to challenge stigma and shape next steps.

This co-produced exhibition will present research findings from a recent collaboration between the Social Justice Chester research team and Community Inspirers from the West Cheshire Poverty Truth Commission. The work has explored the lived experience of poverty and considers wider social and political narratives of the current cost of living crisis and how problematic narratives about poverty can be challenged.
