Based within Careers and Employability, our Employer Engagement Team is a specialist group of staff dedicated to connecting you with external employers and businesses.
The team run a suite of initiatives to provide you with lots of opportunities to connect with local, regional and national employers.
Vacancy Advertising
The team oversee Vacancy Advertising through our CareerHub platform, promoting part-time and graduate level roles. These roles can range from internal jobs and opportunities to external schemes and paid vacancies.
UniJob
The team also manage UniJob; an internal recruitment service which allows teams from across the University, including academic and support departments, to source and advertise paid vacancies for students to work for the University across all of our sites.
Recruiting to positions ranging from Catering Assistants, Administrators to Fitness Instructors, UniJob offers you competitive wages and protected study time, students are encouraged to work no more than 15 hours per week, with opportunities being advertised all year round.
Last year 446 students were recruited through the UniJob service.
Workplace Experiences
Workplace Experiences is the name for a range of employer-hosted experiences consisting of placements, internships and project scholarships designed to help you become more employable. In 2021, 22% of students and graduates participating in the initiative secured further employment immediately following their Workplace Experience.
Employer in the Foyer
Employer in the Foyer events invite employers on-site to engage with students face-to-face, to promote their part-time and graduate jobs, graduate recruitment schemes and internships. The University has welcomed Alcedo Care, Bank of America, MoneyExpert, Jaguar Land Rover, Bet365.com and Chester Race Company so far in 2022, with many more employers booked in throughout the year. Employer in the Foyers events will usually take place in Binks Foyer, with other locations being sought at different sites, so do keep an eye on Student Shout Out for upcoming events or visit CareerHub to find out more!
Get a Graduate Job Month
Our Get a Graduate Job Month is due to take place in March 2023 – a date for your diary! During this week, the team will help external employers to recruit University of Chester talent to permanent positions within their organisation, by advertising, shortlisting and arranging interviews and assessments on-site for you.
Employers in the Curriculum
Employers in the Curriculum allows you to hear from a range of employers in your industry and to learn about their employment opportunities. From 15-minute Careers Soundbites to Active Learning opportunities, employers will share their employment opportunities, knowledge and expertise and complement teaching programmes through authentic and active learning assessment opportunities.
On the new initiatives, Sally Harding, Employer Engagement Manager, said “The expansion of opportunities for employers to interact with our student and graduate body will lead to strengthened partnerships with our key stakeholders, greater opportunities for our students and graduates to connect with local, regional and national employers, resulting in improved graduate employability outcomes.”
