Our Academic Skills (ASk) Advisers work with all students, on all programmes, at every level and campus, to develop your confidence in skills such as academic writing, structuring essays, and referencing. We also have dedicated Maths and Statistics Advisers, who can help with numeracy skills, interpreting statistics, and running your own data analysis in different software.

You don’t have to be referred by anyone to come and chat to us; we are part of your university support package. Whether you’re tackling your first assignment or polishing your final project, we’ll help you build the skills and confidence to succeed – at university and beyond.

How can the Academic Skills team help me?

There are numerous ways ASk can help you to develop your skills, whether you’re on campus, on the move or studying at home.

Online resources

We have a wide range of resources that you can access any time from any location. These include downloadable templates, short videos and our own award-winning podcast, The Skills Pod.

You can check out our resources on our Academic Skills and Maths and Statistics Moodle pages. Answer the questions on our handy interactive contents page to navigate to what you need.

Study Events and Drop-Ins

We run a range of bookable, targeted skills workshops and webinars across the year. Keep an eye on Moodle and our social media for details:

FeedForward Service

You can email us up to 750 words of any piece of work you have in progress, and an Academic Skills Adviser will get back to you within three working days with feedback and developmental guidance on strengthening your writing.

To use FeedForward, please email ASk@chester.ac.uk

ASk Together

If you find yourself sharing similar concerns with your course mates, you can contact us by email to arrange a bespoke informal workshop.

We will design the session around your main concerns and schedule the session at a time to suit you. To arrange this, please email us at ASk@chester.ac.uk

One-to-one appointments

Chat with an Adviser, either online or in person, about any aspect of your academic work. You’re welcome to share your draft with us if you’d like support with a particular assignment, or you can speak to us more generally about developing a particular skill.
