Learn how to plan and construct an effective literature search, gain advice on where to look for the most relevant literature for your discipline, and suggestions for documenting your search and search results.

Need help finding education journal articles? Session for School of Education students

T​his session will focus on advanced search strategies using the Education databases.
It will enable you to find relevant journal articles for your assignments.

Dissertation literature: where do I begin?

Are you starting your literature review and don’t know where to start?

This session is aimed at final year undergraudate and postgraduate students and will help you to plan your searches and use time saving search techniques to find the most relevant academic sources. Learn how to use subject specific databases to find high quality academic journals and research papers.

This session will enable you to:

Introduction to using EndNote 21​​

This session will demonstrate how to use EndNote bibliographic software. It will include: 

  • Setting up and organising an EndNote library. 
  • Adding references to a library using manual or direct export (from subject databases and Library Search) 
  • How to attach a PDF to an EndNote record 
  • How to choose a reference style and create in-text citations and a bibliography using Cite While you Write with MS Word.

Using NHS Library resources – Skills for Life

In this session, Debbie Spencer, Academic Liaison Librarian at the University of Chester, will be joined by NHS Librarian, John Gale. They will provide practical tips on how to use the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub which will be invaluable as you prepare to embark on your career working in the NHS.

The Hub is a search tool to connect NHS staff to knowledge and evidence resources in one place. It includes online journals, e-books and databases and clinical decision support resources including NICE Guidelines and BMJ Best Practice.

Whether you need published knowledge and evidence for patient care, management decision-making, education or research, or just professional curiosity, the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub will provide you with a great place to start your search.​
