Whether you nipped home for a few weeks or you stayed at the university over the festive break, it’s normal to have mixed feelings about the new term.
You might be excited to be reunited with your house mates, you might feel nervous about upcoming assessments or you might even be having doubts about your course – please don’t worry – these are all legitimate feelings for you to have.
To increase your chances of success in term 2, it’s useful to do a bit of prep ahead of the new term. Check out these top tips from Student Minds.
✳️ Review your previous experience
Take some time to think back over term 1. Since September, you’ll have developed loads of skills and knowledge that can help you in term 2.
Consider:
👉 What went well?
👉 What didn’t go as well as you hoped?
👉 How can you use this to have as good a time as possible when you return?
✳️ Prepare academically
Before your lectures begin, take some time to get back into the academic mindset by reconnecting with your course – this could be by doing a bit of reading, or just reviewing your modules on Moodle. Even a small action can help to make you feel more ready for the new academic term.
✳️ Prepare socially
Whether you’ve got a close friendship group or you struggled to find your people in term 1, the window for finding new friends isn’t over. From joining a society to getting involved in volunteering or Active Campus sessions, there are lots of ways to make new connections.
✳️ Take care of your wellbeing
The start of a new year and new term is the perfect opportunity to establish healthy habits. Each week try and carve out some self-care time and try and stick to this – even when assessment deadlines loom! Even small habits can help to remind yourself that you’re worth the energy spent on improving your health.
