Welcome and Orientation: Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) Meetings for New Undergraduate Students

Start Date: 6 October 2025 9:00 am

End Date: 10 October 2025 5:00 pm

Location: Locations will vary depending on your start date and course. You can find details of your assigned PAT, along with your meeting time and location, on your timetable via the University App and on Moodle.

Before you arrive, you will be allocated a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) who will be a member of staff in your Division. Your PAT will provide you with academic advice and guidance, will be your formal attendance contact, and will monitor your academic progress for the duration of your course. 

For most students, the first PAT meeting will take place on Monday 6th October. However, some divisions may have scheduled meetings at different times during Welcome Week. Attendance is expected.

You can find details of your assigned PAT, along with your meeting time and location, on your timetable just before Welcome Week via the University App and on Moodle. Please note that you must complete your online enrolment before you can access Moodle.

Starting university is an exciting new chapter.  Your Academic Induction is designed to help you settle in, connect with your tutors, and feel confident as you begin your studies.

These important sessions will take place during your first week, and we expect all new students to attend. They will help you:

  • Understand your course structure and what’s expected of you
  • Meet your academic tutors and support staff
  • Connect with your classmates and begin building your student community
  • Get to know the systems, spaces, and resources you’ll use throughout your degree

Academic Induction sessions for PGR students are scheduled on the 14th and 15th October in Chester. Further details, including a full itinerary, will be sent to your student email address.

Welcome and Orientation: Stage 2 Enrolment, ID Card & Key Collection for New Residential Students

Are you a new student living in university-owned accommodation and starting your course in October? Once you’ve completed online enrolment and arrived on move-in day (Saturday 4 October), you’ll be able to collect your University of Chester Student ID card and accommodation keys from a designated collection point. Residential students will receive information in advance on how to book an arrival timeslot for Saturday 4 October.

Your Student ID card is essential – it grants access to key university facilities (including the library and halls of residence) and acts as your official proof of student status. You’ll also be given a lanyard when you collect it.
