The 24th of October 2022 marks the start of National Care Leavers Week 2022.

This fantastic opportunity showcases the successes of care experienced young people and reflects on some of the ongoing challenges faced by care leavers as they transition to university.

This year, the Care Leavers Charity, Become, are encouraging the government to #EndTheCareCliff.  This highlights that care never truly ‘leaves’ you and transitioning out of the care system should not feel like falling off a cliff. It is important to share the experiences of young care leavers, amplify their voices and ask care experienced students what needs to change.

Students with experience of care at Chester University are entitled to the Care Experienced support package, which includes:

  • A link member of staff to support with any personal, financial, or academic concerns.
  • Help to secure 365 days a year university accommodation for duration of course.
  • 50% discount on university accommodation.
  • Access to support from the careers and employability service and easy access to financial support, including a bursary and fee waiver.

You can find further information here or by emailing student.experience@chester.ac.uk
