Guide to Streaming Audio-Visual Resources

​Did you know that the University subscribes to a wide range of audio and video streaming platforms, that you can access 24/7 for your research? Stream film, documentary, theatre, television, music, dance, plus training videos to your device via Portal. From Box of Broadcasts(for television shows, documentaries and film) and Kanopy Film to Naxos Music and Rocks Back Pages (for musical streaming and music journalism/magazines).  This session will show you how to locate all these resources as well as Digital Theatre Plus  and Drama Online for dramatology, writers, directors and performance criticism.   

All student​s are welcome to this session, it might be particularly helpful for Music, Media and Performance, Social and Political Science, Humanities, Education and Business. ​

Th​​is session will give a brief overview of some of the benefits of using EndNote bibliographic software to help you store, organise and use your references more effectively.  

O​​ur session will include a demonstration of the following:  

• ​​Overview of the layout of an EndNote library 

• ​​How to add references into your EndNote library by direct export options  

• ​​Outline using Cite While You Write to cite and create a reference list using an output style (APA)

  ​​Literature searching for your systematic review

Learn how to plan and construct an effective literature search, gain advice on where to look for the most relevant literature for your discipline, and suggestions for documenting your search and search results.

​​Introduction to using EndNote 21

This session will demonstrate how to use EndNote bibliographic software. It will include:

• Setting up and organising an EndNote library.

• Adding references to a library using manual or direct export (from subject databases and Library Search)
• How to attach a PDF to an EndNote record
• How to choose a reference style and create in-text citations and a bibliography using Cite While you Write with MS Word.

Need help finding education journal articles? Session for School of Education students

This session is aimed at final year undergraduate and postgraduate students and will help you to plan your searches and use time saving search techniques to find the most relevant academic sources. Learn how to use subject specific databases to find high quality academic journals and research papers.

This session will enable you to:

• Develop an awareness of different search techniques
• Discover some subject specific resources​​

Advanced session using EndNote 21

This session is aimed at staff and students who have already attended an introduction session. It aims to help you personalise your EndNote library further by:

• Creating groups to organise your references, use PDF notes and keyword searching

• Import extra styles and adapt templates 

• Import references from wider sources not compatible with EndNote via direct export – eg. Google Scholar
